How do I work with TruLegal?
If you are exploring your next role, submit your resume or apply for an opening that interests you. If you are hiring, tell us about your talent needs. Our team will connect with you to discuss your goals and the appropriate next steps.
When working with TruLegal, does my information remain confidential?
TruLegal treats the information you share as confidential and does not submit your resume to an employer without your express permission. Tell your representative about any confidentiality concerns, employers you want to avoid, or restrictions on how and when we should contact you.
What are the advantages of working as a contract professional?
Contract work can help you gain experience, contribute to specialized projects, explore different organizations, or bridge a gap between full-time positions. It can also be a career path in its own right. Your representative can discuss the scope, compensation, duration, and working arrangements associated with each opportunity.
Why should I work with TruLegal instead of finding a job on my own?
You gain a partner with specialized knowledge of the market, hiring organization, and role. TruLegal prepares candidates for interviews, coordinates employer communication, gathers feedback, and supports offer negotiations. That guidance helps you understand the opportunity and present your experience effectively.
Should I be exclusive with TruLegal?
Candidate exclusivity is not required. If you work with other recruiters, keep track of where they submit your resume and share that information with your TruLegal representative. We generally cannot represent you for an opportunity where you have already been submitted recently, so coordination matters.
Will TruLegal contact me at work?
We prefer to use your personal phone and email to avoid exposing your search to your current employer. Let us know if you cannot check personal messages during business hours or have limited phone access. We will agree on a communication approach that works for your situation.
Can I send out my resume directly while working with TruLegal?
Check with your representative before applying directly to an employer where you would like TruLegal to represent you. We may already have a relationship with the hiring team. Coordinating first helps avoid duplicate applications and keeps your representation clear.
Can I contact a company directly?
For opportunities where TruLegal represents you, coordinate employer communication through your representative unless you are directed otherwise. A thank-you message after an interview is appropriate; your representative can guide you on the timing and approach.
What is the Hot Jobs newsletter?
Hot Jobs is our weekly roundup of new opportunities, along with relevant market insights and TruLegal updates. Use it to follow openings, explore different markets, and flag roles that interest you to your representative. Subscribe to TruLegal updates.
How do I get started with TruLegal?
The most direct route is to apply for a position on our job board. You can also submit your resume for consideration or contact our team. Share your experience, interests, availability, and preferred working arrangements.
How should I prepare my resume?
Proofread carefully and use accurate employment dates, including months
and years. List roles from most recent to oldest, connect skills to the
employers and projects where you used them, and avoid repeating the same
descriptions across multiple jobs.
Give recent, relevant experience the most space. A focused two-page resume
is a useful starting point, but discuss the appropriate length with your
representative. Include your education and do not omit roles from your
employment history without discussing them.
Does TruLegal change my resume?
TruLegal reviews spelling and grammar and adds a TruLegal header so prospective employers know who represents you. Use the version prepared for the opportunity during your interviews so your materials remain consistent.
Do I need to have references?
Prepare three professional references, ideally including two former
supervisors. Have their names, titles, contact details, and relationship
to you ready before interviewing.
Do not use someone at your current employer without discussing it with
your representative first. If an employer requests a current supervisor
reference, TruLegal coordinates the timing so your current employment
is not put at risk prematurely.
Do I need to have degree verification?
Be prepared to verify the education listed on your resume when required. Keep your diploma and transcript available, and contact your university if you need replacement records. Your representative will explain the documentation associated with the opportunity.
What should I expect when I speak with a TruLegal representative?
The initial conversation usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes and covers your experience, career goals, and preferences. Your representative becomes your main contact for potential opportunities, interview preparation, feedback, and offer discussions.
What happens if TruLegal does not have openings that match my experience?
Openings change as clients' needs evolve. If there is not a match today, keep your representative informed about changes in your skills, certifications, goals, or availability. We can also discuss education or experience that may help you become a stronger match for future opportunities.
Why should I tell TruLegal where I have applied in the past six to twelve months?
Employers need to know whether they have already received your resume and through whom. Keep a list of applications made directly, through referrals, and through other recruiters. Sharing it early helps prevent duplicate submissions and representation conflicts.
What if a TruLegal contract client approaches me about a full-time role?
Connect the client with your TruLegal representative before negotiating directly. Your representative can coordinate the conversation, discuss your interests, and review the terms that apply to a potential conversion.
What is the next step after I speak with a TruLegal representative?
After evaluating your background, your representative will discuss potential opportunities and answer your questions. Once you confirm your interest and authorize a submission, we send your resume and any relevant skills assessments to the employer for consideration.
What happens if I get selected for an interview?
TruLegal's scheduling team coordinates the interview and provides the logistics. Respond to scheduling requests and requests for additional information within 24 hours whenever possible. Prompt communication helps keep the process moving.
When should I be ready to interview?
Be ready to interview once your resume has been submitted to an employer. Share any scheduling restrictions with your representative before submission rather than waiting until an interview is requested.
What should I do if I have limited availability for interviews?
Tell your representative about training, travel, time off, or other scheduling restrictions as early as possible. Also flag planned vacations or other commitments in the coming year that could affect a start date or onboarding.
How should I prepare for an interview?
Your TruLegal representative prepares you for each interview, including
the employer, interviewers, likely questions, compensation topics, and
attire. Be ready to explain specific examples of your work and practice
answering challenging questions.
Take preparation calls somewhere you can speak freely, hear clearly,
take notes, and access the internet. The goal is to help you communicate
what you have accomplished, not simply list what you know.
How should I address compensation during an interview?
Discuss your compensation expectations with your TruLegal representative before interviewing. We will explain how to approach financial questions and coordinate negotiations with the prospective employer. Keep your representative informed if your expectations or priorities change.
What should I wear to my interview?
Your representative will discuss the appropriate attire for the employer and interview format. Aim for a polished, professional appearance and clarify expectations in advance rather than guessing.
When should I arrive for an interview?
For an in-person interview, plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early. If you reach the area much earlier, wait nearby and review your notes before checking in. Follow the arrival instructions provided by the scheduling team.
What if I am running late or cannot find the interview location?
Contact the TruLegal scheduling team using the details in your interview confirmation and notify your representative immediately. The same applies if you need to reschedule or have another last-minute issue. Let us know before the scheduled start whenever possible.
What should I do after an interview?
Contact your representative promptly while the details are fresh.
Share who you met, the questions discussed, what you learned, how you
felt about the opportunity, and any surprises.
Include whether compensation or next steps came up and whether the
interview followed the expected schedule. This helps us coordinate
with the employer and prepare you for the next conversation.
What happens if I get an offer?
Your representative helps you review the offer and coordinates discussions
about compensation, benefits, vacation, and other terms. An offer may
depend on background, reference, or conflicts checks.
Communicate your priorities clearly, respond promptly, and let your
references know when to expect contact. Confirm outstanding conditions
with your representative before making changes to your current employment.
What if I want to decline an offer?
Tell your representative promptly and explain your decision. If your plans or interest have changed, communicate that before further negotiations. Being candid helps us represent you accurately and maintain a professional relationship with the employer.
When and how should I give notice at my current job?
Wait until you have signed your offer and your TruLegal representative
confirms you are clear to proceed. Speak with your supervisor, provide
written notice, establish a final working date, and agree on a transition plan.
Your representative can provide resignation guidance and materials.
Keep your departure professional and follow through on the commitments you make.
What if I receive a counteroffer?
TruLegal does not encourage candidates to accept counteroffers. Speak with your representative before responding, revisit the reasons you began your search, and consider whether the proposed changes address your long-term goals as well as immediate compensation.
What happens after I accept a position through TruLegal?
Your relationship with TruLegal continues after you accept. Stay in touch with your representative and raise questions or concerns early. We remain available for career guidance and can help you identify the appropriate people to address issues that arise in your new position.
What if I want to leave the position TruLegal helped me secure?
Contact your representative before making a decision, whether you have been in the role for a month or several years. We can talk through your concerns, career goals, and options and help you approach the next step professionally.
How do I take part in the Scholarship Program?
TruLegal's Scholarship Program connects professionals with industry training and educational opportunities. Contact our team for current offerings, eligibility, and application information. Hiring managers and industry leaders interested in supporting the program can also get in touch.
When can I apply to the TruLegal Scholarship Program?
Check the current program announcement or contact TruLegal for application dates, deadlines, and award timing. Confirm the schedule for the current cycle rather than relying on an older announcement.

Relativity Master Project Manager
2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, and many of us were forced to make some hard decisions. My longtime career as a cybersecurity/DFIR consultant was halted indefinitely due to COVID travel restrictions, and thats where TruLegal came in and helped me pick up the pieces. They were quick on their feet and did all of the legwork to locate a match that fit my skillset perfectly at Parcels, Inc. They set up the interview sessions and even scheduled prep calls to make sure I had everything needed to succeed. Never did I ever expect this year would end with a new career at an exciting company that is as happy to have me onboard as I am to be there. Not sure where I would be today without the hard work, dedication, and communication from the team at TruLegal. Thank You!

With so many recruiting agencies, it's become increasingly difficult to find one that is efficient and more importantly, empathetic to your goals and needs. During the course of my job search, TruLegal took the time to understand where I am, where I hope to be, and what I needed in order to be happy at my job.
